Description

Nos. 9, 11, and 11A Galgate is a house that has been converted into shops and flats. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior features painted incised render with a painted plinth and painted ashlar dressings, while the right return is made of rubble. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has incised render on the chimney.

The building is two storeys high and has a three-window range. A central low boarded yard door is set in a tooled stone surround. To the left of this door is a mid-19th century three-panel door with an overlight, framed by simple pilasters and an entablature. Adjacent to this is a shallow square two-storey bay window. The lower part of the bay has a recessed two-pane shop window with glazing bars and tinted glass in the upper section, along with moulded brackets that support the fascia and the upper bay. Above the yard door is a plain sash window with a painted projecting stone sill.

On the right side, there is a modern shop front with a plain fascia board that may conceal 19th-century details, and above it is a plain three-light shallow oriel window. The roof features slightly swept eaves and has a massive, battered left end chimney on a plinth, with a moulded kneeler at the right end. The interior has not been inspected.
