Description
No. 15 Galgate is a house that has been converted into a shop and flat. It dates from the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings and features a roof made of stone slates, complete with stone gable coping and a stone chimney.
The structure is two storeys high and has a two-window range. On the ground floor, there is a six-panel door with a high overlight, which is recessed to the left within a tooled stone surround. The shop front includes a deeply-recessed glazed door on the left and a wide two-light window with a tiled stall-riser. The side pilasters are adorned with a central patera and support deep curved brackets with gabled finials, which flank the fascia and cornice.
On the first floor, there is a four-pane sash window on the left, featuring a flat stone lintel and a projecting stone sill. To the right, there is a canted bay window with renewed sashes, the central sash having four panes, all beneath a deep cornice. The roof has a stone ridge, plain gable coping on the right end, and a stone chimney on the right end with a top band and tapered square yellow pots. The interior has not been inspected.
