Description
The building is a former stable block, possibly dating back to the 17th century, and is believed to have served the Rock and Fountain Inn Public House. It is two storeys tall with rectangular elevations made of whitewashed rubble and features a hipped roof covered with terracotta pantiles. The roadside elevation has six window openings with cambered heads, three on the ground floor and three above, all offset to the right. The first-floor windows have simple square-sectioned mullions, while the ground floor openings are fitted with timber shutters and a central bar; one ground floor window on the left has been bricked up. The west gable includes a large cartshed entrance with a timber lintel and a square window above it. The rear elevation is unlit and has a central square-headed loft doorway at first floor level, which is offset and accessed by a flight of stone steps with a wrought iron handrail. The east gable features a single square window opening at first floor level, but the window is missing. A gabled cross range that once closed the yard to the northeast has been removed, and there are blocked doorways beneath the render on the sides, as no stable doors remain. The building was noted to be in poor condition during an inspection in July 1995, and it was not accessible at that time.
