Description

This is an early 19th century cottage, originally built as a turnpike house and featuring Picturesque Gothic detailing on its front facade. The cottage has white-painted, rendered walls, a slated, hipped roof with wide, overhanging eaves, and a brick chimney stack where the hipped and ridged roof sections meet on the east side. A projecting two-storey range extends from the south elevation, jutting forward from the adjacent terrace. This range features a two-storey, canted bay window with a hipped, slated roof. The bay has single lancet windows on each of its splayed faces. A timber, two-centred doorway is set into the south face, and a blank rendered wall above it would have previously held a noticeboard displaying toll charges. Two small, square-headed timber casements are visible on the west elevation. A lean-to extension and a later flat-roofed extension are at the rear, with a small casement window on the first floor. The building was not accessible for inspection in July 1995.
