Description
The building is a former stable and cider house at Morwents Farm, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of roughly squared rubble with larger squared quoins and features a brick eaves course and a tiled roof. The structure has five bays and two storeys. The gable facing the road has a former shuttered window on the ground floor, which is now partly boarded, with a brick-on-end cambered arch above it and an outlet for drainage to the stable floor. There is a slit air vent on the first floor, above which is a ledge with seven small square openings that were used for a dovecote.
A flight of stone steps leads to a door on the right side of the building. On the left side, there is a 20th-century boarded door in two halves, with stone voussoirs forming a cambered arch above. To the left of this door is a two-light timber window with a brick-on-end cambered arch. A central lean-to with a corrugated iron roof, which may be original, currently houses an oil tank. Beyond this, stone steps lead up to a loft, featuring an original boarded door set one step up from the quarter landing, without a lintel. On the right side, there is a two-light timber casement window with a flat brick-on-edge arch above and a slit air vent to the right. The apex of each gable retains bases for finials.
Internally, the cider house is located at the back on the left and still contains a press. There is a crane on the wall to the right of the door in the stable, although its use is unclear. The upper floor features king post trusses, and a plastered partition has been inserted across the loft, coinciding with the construction of the steps on the right of the gable. Bearers for a dovecote box remain, and there is a lean-to extension along part of the back of the building. This stable forms a group with the associated house.
