Description

The Officers' Mess at Raglan Barracks is a simple Classical building dating from the 19th century. It is a two-storey structure with a symmetrical nine-bay façade made of coursed rock-faced rubble masonry, featuring freestone dressings such as a sill band and window and door surrounds. The roof is slate with wide boarded eaves. The building has 12-pane sash windows, most of which are unhorned, and some have metal bars. The central entrance consists of a panelled door topped by a three-pane overlight. The gable ends have a similar four-bay design and extend to the rear for one bay. The rear of the building is constructed of coursed plain rubble and follows a two-plus-five-two bay layout, with the outer bays projecting and featuring pediment treatment similar to that of the main barrack block. Most windows in the outer bays are blocked, and there is a modern central porch.
