Description
The boundary wall to Raglan Barracks is a Grade II listed structure made of local red sandstone facing with a grey limestone perimeter wall topped with freestone coping. The main entrance features rusticated gate piers, which also include pedestrian gates to the left. This entrance has a simple overthrow with a modern lamp. To the right of the main entrance, the wall gently steps up along Allt-yr-Yn View and is stepped out at each of the five corners for defensive purposes, with three corners to the southwest and two to the northeast, while the main four corners are particularly pointed. The design of the wall allows for both ‘enfilade’ and ‘defilade’ battle strategies in case of an attack. Additionally, the wall has a break near the Officers Mess at the rear.
