Description
Nos. 40-46 (even) Monnow Street is a building faced in stucco and painted, featuring a 20th-century grey tile roof that replaced the original stone slabs. This double depth range runs parallel to the street and consists of two storeys and an attic. The first floor has six windows, which are 6 over 6 pane sashes with keystones. The building has rusticated quoins and a band above the first floor windows. The ground floor has late 20th-century shops with a central entrance. A date plaque in the centre of the first floor indicates 'THE 1724'. The plain roof includes three hipped dormers with 6 over 6 panes. The rear elevation is rendered and painted, featuring modern elements. The interior of the ground floor has been completely opened up into one shop. The upper floors were not accessible during the resurvey in July 2004, but it was noted that they retained no features of interest.
