Description
33 Monnow Street is a three-storey building with a rendered and painted brick front and a Welsh slate roof. It has a double depth plan with later additions at the rear. The front features three windows, with a notable shopfront dating from 1866. This shopfront includes a central entrance and a display window to the left, both framed by red Aberdeen granite columns with stiff-leaf capitals in the Venetian Gothic style. The window heads are arched, with additional carving in the spandrels. To the right of the entrance is a tall rear entry with well-crafted panelled doors, and there is a continuous fascia above.
On the first floor, there are cross-framed casements, while the upper floor features 2 over 2 pane sashes, each with architraves and a decorated panel on the aprons between them. A cornice band and a coped parapet, which has raised the roof and reduced the front slope, are also present. The left gable has a tall rendered stack, and there is a small red brick stack on the right ridge. The rear elevation has been altered.
The building has undergone extensive changes in the late 19th century and since, resulting in no significant features remaining.
