Description
Nos. 17-21 (odd) Monkswell Road is a terrace of three-storey houses built from roughly coursed red sandstone rubble, featuring some ashlar window dressings and Welsh slate roofs. The terrace is single fronted and double depth, with No. 21 having a double front. Each house has two windows, with the ground and first floor windows set in two-storey canted bays topped with slate roofs. The windows are 2 over 2 pane sashes flanked by 1 over 1, all framed in ashlar with Caernarvon heads. The doorways have gabled hoods supported by brackets, and above the doors are 2 over 2 pane sash windows with stone Caernarvon heads and brick jambs. The upper floor features paired 2 over 2 pane sashes with stone heads and a central mullion, but with brick jambs, set within a wall-head gabled half dormer that has scalloped bargeboards. The low pitch roof includes four ridge stacks along the terrace. The left return gable of No. 17 has three 2 over 2 pane sashes, while the right return gable of No. 21 has a single window on both the ground and second floors. The rear elevation has not been seen. The interior was not observed during the resurvey.
