Description
21 Monkswell Road is part of a terrace of houses numbered 17 to 21, built from roughly coursed red sandstone rubble, featuring some ashlar window dressings and topped with Welsh slate roofs. This single fronted, double depth terrace includes a double front for No. 21. The building stands three storeys high, with two windows for each house. The ground and first floor windows are located in two-storey canted bays that have slate roofs. The windows are 2 over 2 pane sashes flanked by 1 over 1 pane sashes, all set within ashlar frames that feature Caernarvon heads. The doorway is topped with a gabled hood supported by brackets. Above the door is a 2 over 2 pane sash window with a stone Caernarvon head and brick jambs. The upper floor windows consist of paired 2 over 2 pane sashes that have stone heads and a central mullion, but brick jambs. These windows are situated in a wall-head gabled half dormer adorned with scalloped bargeboards. The low pitch roof has four ridge stacks along the terrace. The left return gable of No. 17 features three 2 over 2 pane sashes, while the right return gable of No. 21 has a single window on both the ground and second floors. The rear elevation has not been seen. The interior was not observed during the resurvey.
