Description

This is a terrace of five single-fronted, double-depth houses located on Monkswell Road. Dating to 1870, they were originally known as North Parade Terrace. The houses are built with unpainted render, arranged to imitate the appearance of ashlar, and have Welsh slate roofs. They are three storeys high, with two windows visible in the front of each house. Pilasters are set between the houses, with decorative bands at the first-floor level and below the second-floor windows. The entrances are on the left side of each house, featuring part-glazed doors, fanlights, and wooden porches with bargeboards and pointed finials. A canted bay window is situated on the ground floor to the right of each porch. The ground-floor windows are 3-over-3 pane sashes, flanked by 1-over-1 pane sashes. The upper-floor windows are simpler, 2-over-2 pane sashes, with smaller windows on the second floor. A date stone is centrally positioned in the terrace on the second floor, clearly marking "North Parade Terrace 1870". The plain roof is punctuated by six ridge stacks. The terrace has blind gable ends. The rear elevation is not visible. The interiors have not been inspected.
