Description

This is a terrace of five double-depth, single-fronted houses, built in 1870 as North Parade Terrace. The houses are located at Nos. 23-31 Monkswell Road. The exterior is unpainted render, designed to imitate ashlar, with a Welsh slate roof. The houses are three storeys high, each with two windows. Panelled pilasters mark the division between each property, with decorative bands at the level of the first-floor windows and the cills of the second-floor windows. Each house has an entrance on the left side, leading to a partially glazed door, fanlight, and a wooden porch featuring bargeboards and pointed finials. A canted bay window on the ground floor is located to the right of the porch. The windows are primarily 3-over-3 pane sashes, with smaller 1-over-1 pane sashes flanking them. The second-floor windows are plain 2-over-2 sashes. A date stone is located at the centre of the terrace on the second floor, bearing the inscription 'North Parade Terrace 1870'. The roof is plain, with six ridge stacks serving the entire terrace. The terrace has blind gable ends. The rear elevation is not visible. The interiors have not been inspected.
