Description
This is a terrace of seven houses located at 17-23 Saint Bede's Terrace, built around 1860. The houses are constructed of English garden wall bond brick with painted ashlar dressings and feature a Welsh slate roof with brick chimneys and stone gable coping. The terrace is two storeys high, with most houses having three windows.
The doors have Sunderland-type architraves, with some being paired, panelled, and folding back to reveal inner panelled doors and overlights. There are elaborate brackets supporting entablatures that project over pilasters. The ground floor features canted bay windows with architraves and cornices, while the first floor mostly has margined sash windows, some of which have been renewed, set in architraves with bracketed cornices.
An eaves band breaks forward over giant pilasters framing Nos 17 and 18 on the left. No. 23 has six windows, with a tripartite door in the third bay and a tripartite window above; it also includes some renewed fixed lights with top-hung transom lights. No. 21 has lost its door brackets. There are some round-headed margined lights in the gabled dormers, and transverse ridge chimneys are present.
