Description
The walls, railings, and gates to Christ Church were built around 1862 by James Murray. They feature snecked rock-faced sandstone walls and piers, topped with ashlar coping and quoins. The northern door has cast and wrought-iron railings, while wrought-iron gates are located at the northern, eastern, and southern entrances. The walls have chamfered coping and connect with gate piers that also have ashlar quoins. Most railings have been removed, except for those at the northern door in The Cloisters, where Gothic cast-iron railings extend from the porch to the boundary wall to the west. Simple wrought-iron railings and a gate separate the entrance from the garden on the northern side of the church. The wrought-iron gates feature leafy tendril terminals on the principals, scrolled dogbar panels with spear finials, and similar finials on the upper scrolls and rail. The gates at the southern entrance were damaged at the time of the survey. This structure is included for its group value.
