GV II

House, now a home for the elderly. c1830,incorporating C18 house, with late C19/early C20 additions in similar style. Garden wall bond brick (5 and one) with tooled ashlar dressings; graduated Lakeland slate roof; earlier house now rear wing is rendered. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 3 x 9 windows, with additions to left. Angle pilasters to main front, left tower addition and extension, and canted bays on right return. Original 3-window front has central half-glazed 4-panelled door and overlight in prostyle wood porch with square columns. Wedge stone lintels and projecting stone sills to sash windows, some with glazing bars; deep eaves on paired scroll brackets, probably added later. Right return garden front has central and right parts added: glazed wooden porch flanked by wide canted bays with hipped roofs. Rear elevation shows Venetian stair window in main building; 2-storey, 3-window rendered earlier house, now kitchen wing, has sashes with glazing bars in broad boxes. INTERIOR shows Ionic screen in entrance hall; doors to right have architraves with paterae.
