Description
This is a terrace of eight houses located on Foyle Street in Sunderland, built around 1840. The houses are constructed of garden wall bond brick with painted ashlar dressings and feature Welsh slate roofs with brick chimneys. Each house has two storeys and a basement, with three windows on the front. Most houses have steps leading up to panelled doors that fold back to create reveals of doorcases adorned with Tuscan pilasters and an entablature. Some of these doorcases include Greek key moulding on the pilasters, while others feature a palmette and anthemion frieze. Notably, Nos. 11 and 12 do not have doors. The windows are sash style, with some having been renewed, and they include vertical glazing bars. The basement windows are similar in style. The roofs are topped with transverse-ridge end brick chimneys, and there are renewed dwarf walls along with cast-iron railings.
