Description
No. 22 Athenaeum Street is a house, now used as offices, built in the mid-19th century with a late 20th-century addition of a projecting ground-floor front extension. The building is constructed of English garden wall bond brick, featuring five and one bond with painted ashlar dressings, and has a Welsh slate roof with brick chimneys. It stands two storeys high with a basement and has three windows.
There are steps leading up to a central door, which has been renewed, in the pent extension. The first-floor features a casement window and a renewed sash window, both with projecting stone sills, while the lintels are obscured by the eaves gutter board. Above the door, there are two small inserted lights, and a third window has been removed with the brickwork made good. The roof is hipped with a ridge chimney.
On the left side, there are wedge stone lintels above the renewed sashes that have glazing bars, as well as similar lintels above the renewed basement door on the right and a fixed light on the left. The building is included partly for its group value.
