Description
Nos. 1-9 (odd) Monkswell Road is a three-storey terrace building dating from the 19th century. It is constructed from roughly coursed red sandstone rubble and features Welsh slate roofs. The terrace has full height stucco quoins at each end and at the kink between Nos. 5 and 7. There are stucco cill bands at the first and second floors, along with stucco window architraves that include keystones and imposts.
Each house is single fronted and double depth, with one window per house. The ground floor windows consist of pairs of single pane double hung sashes set in arched openings. The doorways are matching, with plain fanlights above and 4-panel doors. The upper floors feature tripartite plate glass sashes, although the windows on the top floor are shorter. The terrace has bracketted eaves and a low pitch roof, which is adorned with four ridge stacks.
The front is enclosed by spiked and looped iron railings on dwarf red brick walls, complete with stone corner and gateposts. The terrace has blind gable walls, and there have been some alterations to the rear elevation. The interior has not been seen during the resurvey.
