Description
The Bandstand at Bedwellty Park is an octagonal structure made of iron. It features ornate iron columns with facetted lower stages and fluted centre stages. Decorative segmental arches between the columns are formed by open scrolled wrought iron spandrels. There are low railings between the columns that have a repeated scroll pattern and a plain top-rail. The bandstand stands on a plinth made of moulded cement blocks that imitate ashlar, with cemented steps facing northeast and balustrades that match the railings. Paired gates with similar detailing are also present. A simple plaque at the base commemorates the gift of the bandstand to the Urban District Council by the Bedwellty Park Athletic Club on 3rd June 1912. The roof, which has been altered in the later 20th century, is metal-sheeted and originally featured a two-stage ogee profile with an ironwork frieze between the stages, as shown in old photographs. Inside, there is a boarded ceiling with radiating ribs.
