Description

The Great Exhibition Lump of Coal at Bedwellty Park is a large block of coal measuring approximately five feet by four feet and thirteen feet long, secured by a large wrought-iron band. It is positioned on an elongated dram with eight wheels, situated on a specially-laid short length of plateway. In 1992, a steel and perspex shelter was added overhead to protect the coal from the weather. Next to the larger block is a smaller block dating from 1951, also bound with iron bands and covered.
