Description
The War Memorial at Bedwellty Park is situated on a small raised square enclosure with an ashlar kerb. The memorial faces east towards the road and is accessed by a flight of ashlar steps. It features a tall tapering ashlar pedestal, with the center projecting forward to accommodate a bronze figure of a fully equipped soldier. The soldier stands in front of a tall, plain Celtic Cross with a wheel-head, depicted presenting arms. The figure is signed ‘N.A. Trent, London. Cast by the Morris Art Foundry, London.’ An inscription on the plinth below reads: ‘To the Glory of God and the immortal memory of the men of Tredegar who fell in the Great War 1914-1918. They died that we might live.’ A later inscription below acknowledges the World War 1939-1945.
