Description
Weston Turville War Memorial is located on the north side of a small green at the junction of Worlds End Lane and School Lane. It features a granite Celtic cross that is raised on a tapering plinth, which itself stands on a square, two-stepped base.
The main dedicatory inscription on the front face of the plinth reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 19" followed by 20 names. The inscription includes the phrase, "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS." A small panel on the left face of the plinth lists five names from the First World War and two from the Second World War, which were added in 2002. Additionally, a small stone block on the lower step of the base reads "WORLD WAR 1939-1945" followed by seven names. All inscriptions are made with applied metal letters and include the names listed with rank, in order of date of death.
