Description
The glasshouse located to the north-east of Ruperra Castle is a long structure with a distinctive E-shaped plan, featuring a central entrance that projects forward and wings at either end. Each of the projecting bays is polygonal with deeply splayed corners. The glasshouse is set on a pale brick plinth, with rounded steps leading up to the entrance.
The building is largely complete and retains slate slabbed staging supported by quatrefoil-section cast-iron columns, although no foundry maker's name is visible. Below the staging, there is a diaper pattern of red and cream bricks. The tiled floor includes full-length grilles that cover heating pipes underneath. The roof features cast-iron braces with trefoil cusping. The woodwork for the framework, windows, and doors is reportedly made of teak, and the windows have four-centred heads. At the time of inspection in July 1998, the east end was overgrown.
