Description

The Kitchen Garden Wall and Glass House at Twyn yr Hydd is a Grade II listed structure. The garden wall is made of red brick and runs from north to south. It rises slightly towards the north end, where it features stone coping. At this end, the wall curves outward before returning back to the north. The lean-to glass house faces west and is built on a high brick plinth that supports a single row of upright glazed panels. These panels are divided into four-pane opening lights, which have an iron opening mechanism behind them. Above, there is a pitched glazed roof with wooden glazing bars that are one pane wide, featuring overlapping panes of glass. The top tier also consists of opening lights, again with an iron opening mechanism inside. There are half-lit doors at each end of the glass house. In front of the glass house is a cold frame, which has a low brick wall at the front and wooden glazing bars, but currently lacks glass. At the rear of the garden wall, there is a brick lean-to with a corrugated metal roof, which includes four late 20th-century four-light windows and double doors to the left. Inside, there is a central glazed partition on a brick plinth that contains a doorway. A concrete path runs down the center, with staging on either side, and the iron opening mechanisms are well preserved.
