Description

The walled garden located to the north of Garden Cottage is a Grade II listed structure from the early to mid-19th century, with some features from the mid to late 19th century. The garden wall is constructed of red brick, primarily in English bond, with the upper section in Flemish bond. Attached to the wall are bothies made of coursed rubblestone and brick, topped with Welsh slate roofs, as well as a greenhouse range made of glass set on a brick dwarf wall.

The wall encloses a nearly triangular garden, with curved corners and entrances situated near these corners, including two at the south-west corner. The eastern half of the northern wall features lean-to bothies on the outer side and a lean-to greenhouse range on the inner side. The wall stands approximately 3.5 meters tall, rising to about 4 meters above the bothies. On the outer side, there is an offset below the thinner top section, along with evenly spaced raked buttresses set at intervals of about 3 meters. The wall is capped with slightly oversailing flat coping made of large blue bricks. The entrances feature keyed flat brick arches and board doors with decorative iron hinges, although most of the doors are either collapsed or missing.

The greenhouse range is in a state of disrepair but still retains its glazing bars and an iron vent-opening mechanism, with a manufacturer's plate that reads "W T Revitt, Olney." The bothies are also very derelict, featuring small-pane wooden casement windows with flat arches, iron-framed skylights, an entrance from the garden, board doors, and a former privy. A small brick addition at the west end has single-light windows with decorative, honeycomb-style metal glazing bars, similar to the windows of the nearby Garden Cottage, which dates to 1863.
