Description
The Ogilivie Colliery Explosives Store is a small, single-storey brick building dating from the 19th century. It features a vaulted roof that is two bricks thick and has battered walls that taper from a thickness of 0.62 meters above ground level to 0.5 meters. The arch of the roof springs from a plinth at the top of the walls. To protect the arch from frost, the exterior has been rendered.
At each end of the building, there is a tall louvred window positioned high up, along with small square ventilation holes around the structure, which have renewed iron gratings. The doorway, located at the eastern end, has an iron frame with external hinges for the metal door, which is louvred above. The doorway and windows are topped with slate-hung timber lintels. Recently, the render has been renewed in cement with stainless steel edgings, making it difficult to identify the original building materials from the outside.
