Description
The George and Horne Public House is a two-storeyed L-shaped building located on George Street in Kingsclere, dating from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The symmetrical front, facing west, features three windows and is topped with a tiled roof and moulded plaster eaves. The brick walls are constructed in Flemish bond, with red bricks accented by blue headers and red quoins above a first-floor band that is red with a blue central band. The ground floor is also red, with rubbed flat arches and a plinth, while some exposed timber-framing can be seen at the rear.
The building includes 19th-century mullion and transom windows, along with a 19th-century doorway. A wrought-iron sign bracket is located at the eaves on the corner. The south elevation features cambered openings with casement windows and an angular bay that has a large cornice supported by brackets. There are single-storey extensions on either side of the main block, which have tiled roofs and red brick walls with blue headers.
