Description
Salem Chapel is a 2-storey building with a 4-window front. The ground floor is finished in pebbledash, while the upper floor has a cement render. It features a tall hipped slate roof with wide eaves, tiled cresting, and hooked finials. The front has round arched openings that include horned small pane sash windows with marginal glazing bars. There are paired boarded central doors with fanlights, and a brace plate is located to the left. To the left of the main structure is the 1899 vestry, which is set back. The rear of the building has a similar 2-window arrangement, with the vestry stepped forward and featuring 3 horned sash windows.
Inside, the chapel has a galleried layout with a canted ceiling that is boarded to the edge. Each corner of the ceiling has circular ventilators, and there is a central plaster rose. The panelled gallery front is supported by fluted cast iron columns with foliage capitals. Classical details are present in the set fawr, which has paired columns, and a round arched classical 'reredos' behind it, adorned with painted pilasters and a keystone.
