Description
The Philharmonic Hotel is a Grade II listed building that was formerly two separate buildings. Number 76, located on the left, is a four-storey structure with three windows, featuring a combination of painted stucco and brick. It has end pilasters and cornice bands. The top (attic) floor includes three camber-headed windows with keystones that enclose paired small-pane sashes. The second floor has three larger versions of these windows, with the upper sashes also being small pane. On the first floor, there are six tall camber-headed windows with sash glazing, and the ground floor serves as a public house front.
Number 77 is designed in an Italianate Gothic style and is faced with ashlar, although it has modern sash glazing. This building is four storeys high plus an attic and has a four-window front. The attic features a central gable and an enriched cornice, with two Gothic windows flanked by arcading. The third floor has Gothic windows with enriched trefoil heads arranged in a 1-2-1 pattern. The second floor windows are also grouped 1-2-1, with the central windows supported by colonettes adorned with foliage capitals and topped with quatrefoil heads. Between the window heads, there are paterae with foliage decoration. The first floor windows are grouped in pairs of two, featuring diapered spandrels and enriched piers. The ground floor also functions as a public house front.
