Description

North Lodge to St Donats Castle is a building constructed with random limestone rubble walls and features a large chimney breast with a stack on the north-east gable. The windows have ashlar dressings, and the roof is made of stone tiles, with a second stone stack located to the right of center and coping on the gable ends. This lodge is a single storey with an attic.

On the north-west (street) elevation, from the left, there is a 2-light ground floor window with a dripstone, followed by a 4-centred arch doorway that has a modern lean-to porch in front. Next is a single light ground floor window with a dripstone, then a 2-light attic window with a dripstone in the gable, and finally, slightly to the right, another similar 2-light ground floor window.

The south-east elevation features, from the left, a single light window, a 3-light mullioned window in the center with ovolo mullions and a dripstone below, and a 2-light mullioned attic window with a dripstone in the center gable. There is also a large stone buttress, a small 2-light window on the first floor, and a single light ground floor window set slightly to the right.

The north-east gable includes a first floor 2-light lancet window to the left of the chimney breast and a single light lancet to the right. There is a small oblong window opening in the chimney breast, which is inscribed with the initial 'W' and the date '1905'. The south-west gable has a late 20th-century single storey extension.

The interior was not seen during the resurvey, but a previous description noted that the north-east ground floor room features stopped and chamfered beams in an early 20th-century vernacular style, an inglenook fireplace with stone fireplace stairs, and a wooden boarded floor.
