Description

The wall of the entrance forecourt at St Donats Castle and part of the north-west boundary wall is a castellated limestone structure that rises in the center to create a stepped parapet. It features an inset Stradling coat-of-arms and a late 19th-century inscription by Dr. Nicholl-Carne above a large pointed arch. On the south-east side, the wall extends to the stepped gable of a two-storey staff house, incorporating a smaller arch with a pointed head, a stepped parapet, and a door just to the north-west of the staff house.

On the north-west side, the wall reaches a wide modern service entrance, and it continues for a short distance beyond this to the north-west angle, where it was repaired in 1981. The wall then turns south-west to border the bank above the lane leading to the Church of St Donat's. This section has parts of earlier origin, as indicated on the tithe map, although some sections were rebuilt in the 1970s. The initial part of the wall is castellated, and as it descends the hill, it becomes heavily overgrown with ivy. It connects to the wall of the churchyard of the Church of St Donat's, which is listed separately.
