Description
Cartref is a three-storey building constructed from local lias limestone rubble with dressed quoins, while the rear wall is rendered and painted. It features a Welsh slate roof and is oriented with its tall rectangular block facing south, presenting a gable end to the road. A modern full-width outshut has been added to the north side, along with a modern wing on the west gable.
The main south elevation includes two window bays and a central entrance with French doors set under a stone lintel. This entrance is flanked by 3-light casements, each with 4 + 4 + 4 panes, also under stone lintels, and it appears that the openings for these windows have been widened. Above, there are two 2-light casements with 4 + 4 panes under segmental heads, and two small 2-light attic casements located under the eaves. The roof is steeply pitched with coped gables and rebuilt rubble gable stacks. The street-facing gable is blind and features a Victorian wall letter-box.
The rear elevation showcases a full-width outshut that incorporates the pre-existing garden wall, along with three 2-light casements and a plank door. On the first floor, there are three small casements, and two additional casements are found in the attic. A modern three-bay single-storey wing with a gable stack and a garage is located beyond this. The interior details were not available at the time of resurvey, but it is noted that it is said not to have a stone stair.
