Description

This is an Arts and Crafts style former children's home, dating from the early 20th century. It is a single-unit, asymmetrical building with a three-window front. The exterior is built of rubble stone with a bull-nosed design. The front features a first floor with outer windows that extend upwards through the overhanging eaves, each with a dormer-style roof. The roof is hipped and tiled, featuring a ridge cresting and finials, with brick-capped rubble chimney stacks. A plinth and freestone window dressings are present.

A central two-storey and attic bay is advanced and gable-ended, with flanking cross roofs – one gabled to the right and one hipped to the left. The windows are mainly paired sash windows. A lean-to porch is located on the return angle of the central bay. The right end is half-hipped, and the left end has a cross gable, with similar detailing to the rear, including a low central extension.

The building was noted to be in poor condition during an inspection in April 1986.
