Description
The Former Preswylfa Children's Home is a single-unit, asymmetrical building dating from the 19th century. It is constructed of bull-nosed rubble and features a two-storey front with three windows. The outer windows on the first floor rise through overhanging eaves and have dormer-type roofs. The building has a tall, hipped tiled roof with ridge cresting and brick-capped rubble chimney stacks. There is a plinth and freestone window dressings throughout.
The central bay is two-storey with an attic and is advanced with a gable end, flanked by cross roofs—gabled to the right and hipped to the left. The windows are mainly paired sash windows with small-pane upper sashes. A lean-to porch is located at the return angle of the central bay. The right end has a half-hipped roof, while the left end features a cross gable. The rear of the building has similar details, including a low central extension.
At the time of inspection in April 1986, the building was in poor condition.
