Description

The former Preswylfa Children’s Home is a two-storey building dating from the 18th century, constructed of bull nosed rubble stone with a three-window front. It has an asymmetrical design. The building has a tall, hipped tiled roof with ridge cresting and finials, along with brick-capped rubble chimney stacks. A plinth and freestone window dressings are present.

The central, two-storey bay with an attic projects forward and is gable ended. This bay is flanked by cross-roofed sections, with the roof over the right-hand section gabled and the roof over the left-hand section hipped. Most windows are paired sash windows, featuring small panes in the upper sashes. A lean-to porch is located on the return angle of the central bay. The right end of the building has a half-hipped roof, while the left end has a cross gable. A similar design is found at the rear, incorporating a low central extension.

The building was noted to be in poor condition during an inspection in April 1986.
