Administrive Block at former Preswylfa Children's Home

The Administrative Block at the former Preswylfa Children's Home was built in 1880 as part of the Bridgend and Cowbridge union. This building features a one and two-storey asymmetrical Arts and Crafts front, which includes an advanced hall extension on the left. It is constructed in U-plan with bull-nosed rubble and freestone dressings, and has a plinth with steeply pitched tiled roofs, overhanging eaves, ridge cresting, and finials, along with varied gable ends. The rubble chimney stacks are capped with blue bricks.

The advanced left-hand bay has a stepped tripartite window that lights the hall and rises through the eaves to create a stepped gable end, leading to a taller barn-like roof that slopes down low on the left side. This section features sash glazing and low buttresses. The lower entrance is set back to the right and has pitched roof dormer windows above a shouldered doorway. The central bay has a hipped end with stringcourses, one of which has a scroll end, and a raised lean-to dormer roof above a first-floor sash window, with small-pane upper lights on the ground floor.

To the right, there are grouped small-pane windows set back over a bracketed porch with a low swept roof. The two-storey right-hand bay has a half-hipped and gabled end, with similar glazing and stringcoursing. The right side continues with bull-nosed rubble, stringcourses, and sash windows, topped with a lean-to roof over the main upper window.

The rear of the building exhibits similar asymmetry and varied roof design. At the time of inspection in April 1986, the building was noted to be in poor condition.
