Description
The byre at Upper Penllanafal is likely a combined byre and granary, constructed from limewashed rubble with a corrugated roof. The west gable is also covered with corrugated material, which probably replaced original timber weatherboarding. It features boulder footings and a battered design. The ground floor of the west gable end has three doorways: the center one has a segmental arch, while the two side doorways have square heads with hoodmoulds and boarded doors. Above these doorways, there is a line of weathercoursing that may indicate a former pentice. The roadside elevation includes one ventilation slit and a gabled loft opening with a stone band beneath it, along with a stable door on the left end. The gable end facing the mountain has a pitching door leading to the loft. Inside, the building retains chamfered spine beams and byre stalls at the upper end.
