Description
This is a rectangular, purpose-built cowbyre located to the north of Crickie farmhouse. It is constructed of stone rubble and limewashed on the front, topped with a corrugated roof. On the ground floor, there are four equally spaced cambered arched boarded stable-type doors, each with ventilation slits on the sides. To the right, there is a taller stable doorway and a window. Above these doors, there are two pitching doors located under the eaves, and a datestone is positioned in the center.
Inside, the cowbyre retains all its original fittings, featuring three stalls that can accommodate five cows on each side, with a cobbled floor that slopes towards central drains. There is a hayloft above with pitching gaps, and a small outshut against the north wall that may have been used for calves. The stable bay to the right also retains its stalls and harness fittings.
