Description
The barn at Upper Penllanafal is a large structure that faces a separate byre to the south. It is constructed from limewashed rubble and topped with a corrugated roof. The barn features two tiers of ventilation slits at different heights on either side of the double doors, with a door to the left at the lower level that has a timber lintel. Adjacent stone steps provide access to the loft through a lean-to on the west side. The gable end facing the mountain has two ventilation slits and a pitching door, with a cobbled surround.
Inside, the barn has collar and tie trusses along with three rows of trenched staggered purlins. The threshing floor is made of flagstones and has a stone kerb. At the downhill end, there is a cowshed that accommodates eight cows, with the mangers still in place and a flagstone floor.
