Description
No. 1 Bethel Square is a former house that has been converted into a shop with accommodation above. The building stands three storeys tall and has two bays, topped with a slate roof. The elevation facing Lion Street is finished in cement rendering and features a coved eaves cornice. The ground floor is rusticated and has a moulded band above it, with a pilaster on the right side. The windows are small-pane horned sash types, with two windows on the top floor and a single window with paired sashes on the first floor. On the ground floor to the left, there is a modern shop window, while to the right, an archway leads to Bethel Square, complete with a stepped keystone and quoins on the jambs. There is also a modern shop window in the passageway. Inside, the building retains a good semi-elliptical early 19th-century staircase.
