Description
7 Lion Street is a former inn that has been converted into a shop, consisting of two sections. The two-storey block facing Lion Street features a two-window front with scribed stucco and a slate roof. On the first floor, there are two 4-pane horned sash windows. The ground floor includes a plain doorway on the left and a small-pane window also on the left. The right return, which is roughcast, has a stone sundial near the eaves, a modern attic window towards the rear, and a broad modern window at the first floor level. On the ground floor, there is a plain doorway on the right and, to the left, a former doorway with a 12-pane sash window.
The roughcast rear wing facing Lion Yard has two windows and a central doorcase with plain pilasters and an entablature supported by brackets. It features sash windows, two square windows on the second floor with altered glazing bars, and small-pane sashes elsewhere, including a small casement window to the right of the doorway.
The block facing Lion Yard retains 17th-century details, including a fireplace and moulded ceiling beams. The front block, which was the former great room of the Golden Lion, has a cornice and a small rear annexe with a lugged chimney piece.
