Description
Nos 3 and 4 High Street Inferior is a shop with accommodation above, dating from the 18th century. The building has two storeys plus an attic and features a stuccoed front. It has a deep slate hipped roof with projecting eaves that have a boarded soffit, and there is an extension to the left leading to a large brick chimney stack.
The front elevation includes three hipped dormers with slate roofs and casement glazing. On the first floor, there are five 12-pane hornless sash windows set in moulded architraves. The ground floor features a 20th-century shopfront designed in a classical style, consisting of five bays with a central doorway and two display windows on each side, supported by half columns that hold up a fascia board and cornice.
At the rear, there are two hipped dormers and three sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor. It is believed that Nos 3 and 4 retain the upper part of a good staircase from around 1700, which has turned balusters.
