Description

Nos 25 and 27 Quay Street in Fishguard are a pair of cottages built from brown roughly squared sandstone, topped with slate roofs and adorned with red terracotta crested ridge tiles. They feature a tall stone and black brick chimney situated between the two houses. These cottages are one and a half storeys high and follow a mirrored design typical of estate cottages, with a half-hipped rear range and double gables projecting to the front. The front gables contain the parlour and main bedroom of each house, and there are porches located in the re-entrant angles.

The chimney is positioned in the valley between the front gables, which each have fretted bargeboards and cambered-headed windows on both floors, with painted brick heads. The windows consist of a two-light design above and a three-light design below, all of the mullion and transom type. The half-hipped end gables display different fretted bargeboards, with a similar arrangement of a first-floor two-light window above a ground-floor two-light window flanked by two single lights, all featuring brick cambered heads. The porches are gabled and aligned parallel to the main range, showcasing half-timbered two-bay sides facing the road, complete with angle struts. The gable ends of the porches have side-lights at the doorways and Gothic piercings in the gable.
