Description

Nos 25 & 27 Quay Street, Fishguard

Pair of cottages, brown roughly squared sandstone with slate roofs, red terracotta crested ridge tiles and tall stone and black brick chimney between the 2 houses. One and a half storeys, to a typical estate cottage mirrored pair design of a half-hipped rear range with a double gable projecting to the front (containing the parlour and main bedroom of each house), and with porches in the re-entrant angles. The chimney is in the valley between the front gables, each having fretted bargeboards and a cambered-headed window to each floor, with painted brick heads. Two-light window above, 3-light below, all mullion and transom type. The half-hipped end gables have different fretted bargeboards, a similar first floor 2-light over a ground floor 2-light between 2 single lights, all with brick cambered heads. The porches are gabled parallel to the main range, showing half-timbered 2-bay sides to the road, with angle struts, while the gable ends have side-lights to the doorways and Gothic piercings in the gable.
