Description

A pair of cottages dating to the mid to late 18th century, situated on Arthington Lane. They are constructed of coursed squared sandstone, with quoins to the left end, and have a slate roof. The cottages have a double-depth, two-unit plan. The symmetrical facade features two low storeys and two bays. Doorways are positioned at each end, each with a raised, plain surround. Between the doors are two 3-light windows on each floor, characterised by slightly-recessed flat-faced mullions and raised, plain surrounds. A small square window has been inserted on the first floor above the doorway of the left-hand cottage (No. 5). A ridge chimney is present. The cottages are recognised as a good example of their type and period.
