Description
Pool Bridge is a public road bridge that spans the River Wharfe. It was built in the 18th century and widened in the 19th century. The bridge is constructed of coursed squared sandstone and features seven segmental arches. There are two main spans over the river, along with two arches leading to a ramp at the south end and three arches for the ramp at the north end.
The design of the two sides of the bridge is different. The east side has simple recessed arches and triangular cutwaters, while the west side features rusticated run-out voussoirs and round-nosed cutwaters. Both sides include rectangular intermediate piers and a canted central pier, all of which are battered and made of vermiculated masonry. The bridge also has cylindrical end piers topped with domes.
This bridge was previously listed under the parish of Leathley, but that entry was removed in September 2018.
