Description

This is a pair of cottages located at Nos 25 and 27 Quay Street, Fishguard. They were built in the 18th century as part of a mirrored pair layout, typical of estate cottages. The cottages are constructed of brown, roughly squared sandstone with slate roofs, featuring red terracotta crested ridge tiles and a tall stone and black brick chimney situated between the two houses. Each cottage is one and a half storeys high, with a half-hipped rear range and projecting double gables to the front, housing the parlour and main bedroom. Porches are positioned in the re-entrant angles. Each front gable has fretted bargeboards and a cambered-headed window on both floors. The upper windows are two-light, while the lower windows are three-light, all of a mullion and transom design with painted brick heads. The half-hipped end gables are distinguished by different fretted bargeboards, and a two-light window over a ground floor arrangement of two lights between two single lights, all with brick cambered heads. The porches are gabled and parallel to the main range. The sides of the porches facing the road have a half-timbered two-bay design with angle struts, while the gable ends feature side-lights to the doorways and decorative Gothic piercings in the gable.
