Description

The Halifax Building Society is a commercial property with a residence above, featuring painted stucco cladding, a slate roof, and brick end stacks. It is three storeys high and has a four-window elevation. The upper storey includes four plate glass sash windows positioned just below the eaves. The first floor has four longer windows of the same style, while the ground floor features a narrow late 20th-century glazed shop front with a central glazed door set within a segmental arch-headed opening in the left bay. Next to it is a tall semi-circular headed doorway, and the two right-hand bays are occupied by a late 20th-century double shop front with a central recessed doorway, framed by pilasters and console brackets that support a late 20th-century fascia.

The first and second storeys are accented by rusticated quoins, and a string course runs across the building between these two levels. The first-floor windows have moulded surrounds. The left gable end is constructed of stone rubble and features a small two-pane sash window at attic height. The rear, also made of stone rubble and situated lower down the slope than the front, has four storeys but only a three-window range. The left and right end windows of the top three storeys are large-pane sashes with peripheral glazing bars, while the ground floor has a similar window on the left and a bricked-up doorway on the right. The centre bay contains two long four-pane stair lights with peripheral glazing bars, each extending two storeys in height. All openings are adorned with brick voussoirs.
