Description
The Old Post Office is a former commercial premises that has been designated as a Grade II listed building. It features stuccoed cladding and a slate half-hipped roof with thin brick end stacks. The structure stands three storeys tall and consists of two main bays plus one slightly set-back bay on the right. Each floor is adorned with angle pilasters and heavy moulded cornices, with broader friezes on the main floors and a heavier cornice at the eaves level. The ground floor showcases channelled rustication. The windows are cambered-headed and framed in moulded architraves, fitted with plate glass sashes. The recessed bay mirrors this design, but the ground floor sash is positioned to the left to allow for a pilastered and pedimented doorway. The ground floor windows have 20th-century glazing, and the entrance door is a five-panelled design with an overlight.
Inside, upon entering through the front door, there is a staircase featuring turned balusters and a fluted newel topped with a ball finial, along with a stair screen that includes leaded coloured glass arranged in four lights. To the left of the entrance is the main office, which is now used as a shop.
