Description

York House is a commercial building with living accommodation above, dating from the 18th century. The front is faced in painted lined stucco, topped by a slate roof hidden behind a parapet. A brick stack is located on the left end. The building has a basement and three main floors, with a two-bay section on the left and a two-bay section on the right. An attic dormer is set behind the parapet. A moulded cornice runs along the top of the building.

The left-hand section features two-paned sash windows with moulded cornices, set above a projecting shopfront. The right-hand side has four-paned sash windows on the upper floors, positioned over a square-headed doorway which is slightly misaligned. The doorway has a six-panel door with a margin-glazed overlight.

The shopfront has a large, panelled pilaster on the left, topped with a double-curved bracket. A fascia with a dentilled cornice and decorative iron cresting runs across the top. A single large plate-glass window occupies the front of the shop, with a narrow, canted section to the right.
